PROJECTORS

AV-Rentals-Video-Full

Projectors are measured in lumens. The higher the lumen count, the brighter the projector.

Screen size also plays a role in selecting a projector.

The type of content also plays a role

  • Highly detailed content like an HD video will require a bright, high resolution projector to fully display all of the details.
  • PowerPoints and simple charts, on the other hand, don’t need to be quite as bright. They can also have lower resolutions depending on how simple they are.

Projector “Rule of Thumb”

  • 3,500K – 4K lumen projectors are good for 6ft, 7ft, 8ft screens
Breakouts, needs to be a dark room
  • 5K -10K lumen projectors are good for 9ft- 16ft screens
Can be used in a room with some light, best in a room with controllable lighting, like a conference room.
  • 12K – 20K lumen projectors are good for up to about a 20ft screen
Used in larger ballrooms, medium to large audience, video content.

SCREENS & MONITORS (TVS)

Screens-and-Monitors-Full

The selection between screens or monitors/TVs should be based on number of attendees, nature of the event, size of event space, and location (indoor or outdoor).

  • Screens: Large group of people, a lot of information on the presentation.
  • Monitors/TVs: Smaller groups, audience is within 30ft-40ft of the monitor, offers a higher resolution/image quality.

Size of the screens or monitors is based on the size of the room and the number of attendees

  • Always note celling height

Rear projection takes a special kind of screen surface that allows light to pass through it. This places the projector(s) behind the stage and not insight or in the physical way of the event audience.

Monitors-Full

16:9 vs 4:3

  • The new standard is wide-screen or 16:9 and 4:3 is being phased out. This means that the screens and projectors will be formatted to support the wide-screen standard.
  • It is best practice to have the content match the format. To avoid the black bars on the sides of a presentation or from having all of the slides of a PowerPoint looked stretched, format the presentation to a 16:9 orientation.

Set PowerPoint to 16:9 :

  • On the File menu, select Page Setup.
  • In the Page Setup dialog box, under Slides sized for, select the predefined size you want, or choose Custom and specify the dimensions you want.
